A colouring competition was recently held at the Adappankulam Preschool, which functions under the Jaffna Diocese of the Church of South India.

The preschool children participated enthusiastically and showcased their creativity and artistic talents through their colourful drawings. Parents also took part in the event by encouraging and supporting their children throughout the competition.

The programme proved to be a meaningful and enjoyable activity, helping to develop the children's creativity, imagination, and self-confidence. The active involvement and cooperation of the parents greatly contributed to the success of the event and were highly appreciated.

Sunday School One-Day Special Programme Held at Kalmedu Church

A one-day special programme for Sunday School children was recently held at the Kalmedu Church under the Jaffna Diocese of the Church of South India.

The event was conducted under the leadership of Evangelist Brother Sam Sivalingam, who is serving at the church. The programme was facilitated by Brother Sulakshan, Regional Coordinator of the Northern Province for the Sri Lanka Children’s Gospel Union, who actively guided the sessions.

Reverend S. Daniel Mohan, church worker from Vishwamadu Church, also participated in the event and contributed to its success.

The programme aimed at promoting the spiritual growth of children, strengthening their Christian faith, and developing biblical knowledge along with good moral values and character formation. Various activities including Bible studies, group sessions, games, and interactive learning exercises were conducted to engage the children in a meaningful and enjoyable way.

Children who participated showed great enthusiasm throughout the programme, and it was widely appreciated as a valuable opportunity for their spiritual and personal development.

தென்னிந்திய திருச்சபையின் யாழ் ஆதீனம் கல்மடு திருச்சபையில் ஓய்வுநாள் பாடசாலைப் பிள்ளைகளுக்கான ஒருநாள் சிறப்பு நிகழ்வு அண்மையில் நடைபெற்றது.

அங்கு பணியாற்றும் நற்செய்திப் பணியாளர் அருட்சகோதரர் சேம் சிவலிங்கம் அவர்களின் தலைமையில் நடைபெற்ற இந்நிகழ்வில், இலங்கை சிறுவர் நற்செய்தி ஐக்கிய நிறுவனத்தின் வடபகுதி ஒருங்கிணைப்பாளர் சகோதரர் சுலக்சன் அவர்கள் வளவாளராகக் கலந்து கொண்டு நிகழ்ச்சிகளை வழிநடத்தினார்.

மேலும், விஸ்வமடு திருச்சபை ஊழியர் அருட்பணி எஸ். டேனியல் போகன் அவர்களும் இந்நிகழ்வில் பங்கேற்று சிறப்பித்தார்.

இந்நிகழ்வின் மூலம் பிள்ளைகளின் ஆன்மீக வளர்ச்சி, கிறிஸ்தவ வாழ்வில் நிலைத்திருத்தல், திருமுறை அறிவு மற்றும் நல்ல பண்பாட்டு வளர்ச்சி ஆகியவற்றை மேம்படுத்தும் நோக்கில் பயிற்சிகள் வழங்கப்பட்டன. திருமறைப் படிப்புகள், குழு நடவடிக்கைகள், விளையாட்டுக்கள் மற்றும் பல்வேறு செயன்முறை நிகழ்வுகள் ஊடாக பிள்ளைகள் பயனுள்ள அறிவையும் அனுபவங்களையும் பெற்றுக்கொண்டனர்.

நிகழ்வில் கலந்துகொண்ட பிள்ளைகள் மிகுந்த உற்சாகத்துடன் பங்கேற்றதுடன், அவர்களது ஆன்மீக மற்றும் தனிப்பட்ட வளர்ச்சிக்கு இந்நிகழ்வு பயனுள்ளதாக அமைந்தது.

A special May Day worship service dedicated to labourers was held today at JDCSI Inuvil Church, organized by the Jaffna Christian Union. The service was arranged and led by the Inuvil Parish Priest, Rev. S. John Lingeswaran.

Clergy and believers from several denominations, including the Anglican, Methodist, Salvation Army, and the Church of South India, gathered in unity to mark the significance of the day. Anglican Church North East Archdeacon, Rev. Dr. S. D. P. Selvan, was also present and participated in the worship.

In a symbolic gesture, denominational heads together with Mr. T. Srimohanarajah, representing the labour community, lit the traditional oil lamp.

The special sermon was delivered by the Bishop, Rt. Rev. Dr. V. Pathmathayalan. In his message, he reflected on the historical background of Labour Day and emphasized the dignity and rights of labourers as rooted in God’s creation, highlighting the concept of Sabbath as a divine provision for rest. He also noted that Jesus Himself was a hardworking individual, underscoring the value of labour in Christian life.

The worship service was followed by a fellowship breakfast, providing an opportunity for participants to share in community and strengthen bonds of unity.

The service stood as a meaningful expression of gratitude, unity, and recognition of the contributions of labourers in society.

A solemn commemoration of S. J. V. Chelvanayakam

A solemn commemoration was held today to mark the death anniversary of S. J. V. Chelvanayakam, fondly remembered as “Thanthai Selva,” at his gravesite.

The event brought together clergy, community leaders, and members of the public who gathered to pay their respects and honour his enduring legacy of non-violence, justice, and commitment to the rights and dignity of his people. Floral tributes were laid, and prayers were offered in remembrance of his life and service.

The Bishop of the Jaffna Diocese of the Church of South India Rt.Rev.Dr.V.Pathmathayalan graced the occasion with his presence, alongside the Diocesan Secretary, Rev. Sathees Daniel. Their participation reflected the Diocese’s continued respect for Thanthai Selva’s principled leadership and his contribution to the social and political history of Sri Lanka.

The gathering concluded with a renewed call to uphold the values he stood for, inspiring future generations to pursue peace, unity, and justice in society.

Christmas Celebration Brings Joy to Subramaniam Kanagam Memorial Pleasant Cottage (Elders’ Home)

The Elders' Home celebrated the joy and spirit of Christmas with a special festive gathering last December. The programme was beautifully organized under the leadership of the Director, Prof. Thulasitha William Shanthakumar, creating a memorable occasion for all the residents.

The celebration featured a variety of performances by the elders themselves, including heartfelt songs and lively dances, showcasing their talents and enthusiasm. Their participation filled the atmosphere with happiness and festive cheer.

The Bishop graciously attended the event, sharing words of blessing and encouragement with the residents and staff. The programme was led by the Chaplain, Rev. S. John Lingeswaran, who conducted the worship and devotional activities.

As a token of love and care, Christmas gifts were distributed to all the elders residing at the Home, making the celebration even more meaningful. The event reflected the spirit of compassion, fellowship, and the true message of Christmas, bringing smiles and warmth to the hearts of everyone present.

JDCSI Honoured Rev.A.K,Selvanayagam

The Jaffna Diocese of the Church of South India (JDCSI) honoured Rev. Selvanayagam during the Diocesan Council gathering held in 2025, in appreciation of his faithful and dedicated ministry as he approaches his retirement from active service.

The Bishop of JDCSI recognized Rev. Selvanayagam for his nearly 35 years of committed service to the Diocese. As a senior minister of the Diocese, he has faithfully served congregations in various places with humility, pastoral care, and spiritual leadership throughout his ministry.

Currently serving as the minister of JDCSI Wattala, Rev. Selvanayagam continues to guide and strengthen the church community with devotion and commitment.

The Diocese expressed its heartfelt gratitude for his faithful ministry spanning more than three decades and prayed God’s abundant blessings upon him and his family as he enters a new chapter of life.
