The Confirmation Worship Service of the Colombo JDCSI Church was held on 10th May with great joy and spiritual significance. During the special worship service, new full members were confirmed by Rt. Rev. Dr. V. Pathmathayalan.
The service was attended by Rev. John Puvanagularaja and Rev. Selvanayagam, along with members of the congregation, families.
It was a blessed and meaningful occasion for the Church as young believers were added as full members into the communion of the Church. The worship service reflected faith, commitment, and the continuing growth of the Church community.
A special May Day worship service dedicated to labourers was held today at JDCSI Inuvil Church, organized by the Jaffna Christian Union. The service was arranged and led by the Inuvil Parish Priest, Rev. S. John Lingeswaran.
Clergy and believers from several denominations, including the Anglican, Methodist, Salvation Army, and the Church of South India, gathered in unity to mark the significance of the day. Anglican Church North East Archdeacon, Rev. Dr. S. D. P. Selvan, was also present and participated in the worship.
In a symbolic gesture, denominational heads together with Mr. T. Srimohanarajah, representing the labour community, lit the traditional oil lamp.
The special sermon was delivered by the Bishop, Rt. Rev. Dr. V. Pathmathayalan. In his message, he reflected on the historical background of Labour Day and emphasized the dignity and rights of labourers as rooted in God’s creation, highlighting the concept of Sabbath as a divine provision for rest. He also noted that Jesus Himself was a hardworking individual, underscoring the value of labour in Christian life.
The worship service was followed by a fellowship breakfast, providing an opportunity for participants to share in community and strengthen bonds of unity.
The service stood as a meaningful expression of gratitude, unity, and recognition of the contributions of labourers in society.
Rt. Rev. Dr. V. Pathmathayalan marked Easter Sunday with a pastoral visit to Batticaloa, where he presided over the Holy Communion service, commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Following the Easter worship, the Bishop met with inter-religious leaders and civil society activists at the Eastern Ministry Office of the Jaffna Diocese of the Church of South India (JDCSI). The meeting focused on strengthening interfaith collaboration and addressing key social and political concerns affecting the district.
During the discussion, civil rights activists shared their ongoing work and the challenges they face in promoting justice and community welfare. Bishop Pathmathayalan attentively listened to their concerns and affirmed the commitment of the JDCSI to fostering social harmony, building strong inter-religious relationships, and advocating for justice in the spirit and teachings of Jesus Christ.
The engagement highlighted the growing importance of faith-based collaboration in addressing contemporary social issues and promoting peaceful coexistence in the Eastern Province.

ஈஸ்டர் ஆராதனைக்கு பின்னர், தென் இந்திய திருச்சபை (JDCSI) கிழக்கு பணியக அலுவலகத்தில், மட்டக்களப்பு மாவட்டத்தில் உள்ள சர்வமத தலைவர்களும் சிவில் சமூக செயற்பாட்டாளர்களும் ஆயரை சந்தித்து கலந்துரையாடினர். இந்த சந்திப்பில் மத நல்லிணக்கம், சமூக ஒற்றுமை மற்றும் மாவட்டத்தின் சமூக-அரசியல் சவால்கள் குறித்து கவனம் செலுத்தப்பட்டது.
இந்த உரையாடலின் போது, சிவில் சமூக செயற்பாட்டாளர்கள் தங்களின் பணிகள் மற்றும் தாம் சந்திக்கும் சவால்கள் குறித்து ஆயருடன் பகிர்ந்து கொண்டனர். சமூக நல்லிணக்கத்தை வளர்த்தல், மதங்களுக்கு இடையேயான உறவுகளை வலுப்படுத்தல் மற்றும் இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின் போதனைகளின் வழியில் நீதி குரலை எழுப்புதல் ஆகியவற்றில் JDCSI-யின் அர்ப்பணிப்பை ஆயர் உறுதிப்படுத்தினார்.
மேலும் தற்போதைய சமூகத்தில் காணப்படும் சமூக சவால்களை எதிர்கொள்ள சர்வ மதங்களின் ஒத்துழைப்பின் அவசியம் கிழக்கு மாகாணத்தில் அமைதியான வாழ்வை மேம்படுத்துவதின் முக்கியத்துவம் போன்றவை குறித்தும் கலந்துரையாடப்பட்டது.
A solemn commemoration was held today to mark the death anniversary of S. J. V. Chelvanayakam, fondly remembered as “Thanthai Selva,” at his gravesite.
The event brought together clergy, community leaders, and members of the public who gathered to pay their respects and honour his enduring legacy of non-violence, justice, and commitment to the rights and dignity of his people. Floral tributes were laid, and prayers were offered in remembrance of his life and service.
The Bishop of the Jaffna Diocese of the Church of South India Rt.Rev.Dr.V.Pathmathayalan graced the occasion with his presence, alongside the Diocesan Secretary, Rev. Sathees Daniel. Their participation reflected the Diocese’s continued respect for Thanthai Selva’s principled leadership and his contribution to the social and political history of Sri Lanka.
The gathering concluded with a renewed call to uphold the values he stood for, inspiring future generations to pursue peace, unity, and justice in society.

Dr. வி. பத்மதயாளன் அவர்களும் ஆதீன செயலாளர் அருட்பணி சதீஸ் டானியல் அவர்களும் இந்நிகழ்வில் கலந்துகொண்டு சிறப்பித்தனர். தந்தை செல்வாவின் கொள்கைமிக்க தலைமையையும், இலங்கையின் சமூக மற்றும் அரசியல் வரலாற்றில் அவர் செய்த பங்களிப்பையும் தென் இந்திய திருச்சபை யாழ் ஆதீனம் தனது என்றும் நினைவு கூறுகின்றது.

The Jaffna Diocese of the Church of South India (JDCSI) honoured Rev. Selvanayagam during the Diocesan Council gathering held in 2025, in appreciation of his faithful and dedicated ministry as he approaches his retirement from active service.
The Bishop of JDCSI recognized Rev. Selvanayagam for his nearly 35 years of committed service to the Diocese. As a senior minister of the Diocese, he has faithfully served congregations in various places with humility, pastoral care, and spiritual leadership throughout his ministry.
Currently serving as the minister of JDCSI Wattala, Rev. Selvanayagam continues to guide and strengthen the church community with devotion and commitment.
The Diocese expressed its heartfelt gratitude for his faithful ministry spanning more than three decades and prayed God’s abundant blessings upon him and his family as he enters a new chapter of life.
