In the heart of Mankulam, the New Life Center at St. Andrew’s Church ignited a wave of community action during Child Protection Week, blending advocacy with inspiration on August 30, 2025. Kicking off at 9:00 AM, the event—guided by Director Rev. P. Sudhakaran—launched with an energetic rally where kids proudly waved banners highlighting their rights and the need for vigilant protection.
Transitioning to the church’s open grounds, participants enjoyed a heartfelt welcome, worship session, lamp-lighting ceremony, and an upbeat dance performance that set a joyful tone.
Probation Officer Mr. S. Sivakaran from Mullaitivu District took the stage as chief guest, offering practical tips for parents on embedding child rights into everyday routines.
Complementing this, Mrs. Nirmala Jayasinghe of Mankulam Police Station delivered essential insights on navigating legal steps against child abuse, arming families with actionable knowledge.
The morning’s centerpiece, A captivating drama by New Life Center staff, vividly portraying parental duties in fostering safe, nurturing homes. Wrapping up with a communal lunch, the gathering strengthened bonds and renewed vows to safeguard the vulnerable.
Echoing this mission, theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer once remarked, “The test of the morality of a society is what it does for its children,” reminding us of our sacred duty.
As Scripture affirms in Matthew 19:14 (NRSV), “Let the little children come to me; do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.”
Through such initiatives, the Church of South India Jaffna Diocese upholds its decades-long legacy of championing children’s education, rights, and well-being in a secure world.

தென்னிந்திய திருச்சபை யாழ் ஆதீனம், மாங்குளம், புனித அந்திரேயா ஆலயத்தில் இயங்கும் புது வாழ்வு மையத்தின் சிறுவர் பாதுகாப்பு வார நிகழ்வு 30.08.2025 அன்று இயக்குனர் வண. பி. சுதாகரன் தலைமையில் காலை 9 மணியளவில் ஆரம்பமானது. நிகழ்வில் ஆரம்ப நிகழ்வாக சிறுவர் பாதுகாப்பு மற்றும் உரிமைகள் தொடர்பாக விழிப்புணர்வு பேரணி சிறுவர்களினால் முன்னெடுக்கப்பட்டது.
அதனைதொடர்ந்து ஆலய திறந்த வெளியரங்கில் விருந்தினர் வரவேற்பு, இறைவணக்கம், மங்கள விளக்கேற்றல், வரவேற்பு நடனம் போன்ற நிகழ்வுகள் நடைபெற்றன. நிகழ்வுகளின் வரிசையில் பிரதம விருந்தினராக கலந்து சிறப்பித்த முல்லைத்தீவு மாவட்ட சிறுவர் நன்னடத்தை பிரிவின் அதிகாரி திரு எஸ். சிவகாரன் அவர்கள் சிறுவர் உரிமைகளை நடைமுறை வாழ்வில் கடைபிடிக்க வேண்டிய அவசியத்தை பெற்றோருக்கு விளக்கி கூறினார்.
அதனை தொடர்ந்து மாங்குளம் பொலிஸ் நிலையத்தைச் சேர்ந்த திருமதி நிர்மலா ஜெயசிங்க அவர்கள் சிறுவர் மட்டத்தில் துஸ்பிரயோகங்கள் ஏற்படும் போது அவற்றை சட்டரீதியாக அனுக்கும் முறை குறித்த செய்தியினை பகிர்ந்து கொண்டார். இறுதியாக பெற்றோருக்கு பிள்ளைகள் மீதுள்ள பொறுப்புக்கூறலினை விளக்கும் வகையில் பணியாளர்களினால் நாடகம் அரங்கேற்றப்பட்டது. ஐக்கிய மதிய உணவுடன் நிகழ்வுகள் அனைத்து நிகழ்வுகளும் இனிதே நிறைவுற்றது.

In a heartwarming initiative that bridges generations, the Jaffna Diocese of the Church of South India (CSI) continues its excellent work in serving and honoring the elderly. A recent visit by children from the Diocese’s New Life Center in Mankulam beautifully underscored the church’s commitment to teaching young people the values of respect and care for their elders.
The children visited the SK Old Age Home in Kilinochchi Ariviyal Nagar for a special day of fellowship. The primary goal was to provide a practical lesson in loving and respecting the elderly, a core principle of the church’s mission.
The event was filled with joy and celebration. The children began by honoring each resident with a garland, a traditional sign of respect. The visit then blossomed into a lively program of artistic performances, featuring a welcome dance, songs, poetry, and speeches by the children. In a touching reciprocal gesture, the elderly residents also participated, sharing an English song and dance of their own.
The day culminated with children and residents sharing a meal together, fostering a deep sense of community and family.
This special visit was a profound success. The children gained a firsthand understanding of the importance of honoring their elders, while the elderly residents were visibly uplifted by the energy, love, and respect shown to them.
These moments are where faith is lived out in love, service, and mutual respect across all ages.

The Jaffna Diocese of the Church of South India once again demonstrated its leadership in building safer communities for children by hosting a vibrant Child Protection Week program at the God’s Love Child Development Centre on August 23rd, 2025. More than 90 participants, including parents, children, community representatives, and staff, came together in unity to reaffirm a shared responsibility: protecting the nation’s future generation.
A Walk with Purpose
Kicking off the day was a spirited Awareness Walk, where children and community members marched side by side, carrying banners and calling for greater action on child rights. The colorful procession was more than symbolic—it was a public pledge that child safety must be prioritized in every Sri Lankan household and community.
Words that Inspired Action
Following the walk, the gathering listened with great interest to Mr. S. Jeyaganesh, Child Rights Promotion Officer from the Karaichi DS Office. His powerful session highlighted practical steps for parents and communities to create child-friendly environments, ensuring children are not only protected but also empowered to grow with confidence.
Impact in the Community
This Child Protection Week celebration left a clear imprint on the participants and the broader community:
- Awareness about child rights was broadened and deepened.
- Children found their voices and expressed themselves with renewed courage.
- The message of shared responsibility echoed strongly, aligning with the diocese’s broader mission of nurturing safe and Christ-centered communities.
Faith and Humanity United
As Dietrich Bonhoeffer once wrote, “The test of the morality of a society is what it does for its children.” For the Jaffna Diocese, safeguarding children’s welfare is not simply an activity but a theological calling—an expression of Christ’s love and justice.
This resonates with the conviction expressed by Sri Lanka’s longstanding friends in the world community, including Kofi Annan, who said: “There is no duty more important than ensuring that children grow up safe, free from fear, and full of hope.”
A Lasting Commitment
Through this initiative, the diocese has shown that child protection is not an occasional campaign but a continuous mission woven into the life of the Church and society. The event stands as a living testimony that when faith, families, and communities unite, every child in Sri Lanka can grow in security and dignity.
தென் இந்திய யாழ் ஆதீனம் விசுவமடு தூய திரித்துவ ஆலயத்தில் நடைபெறுகின்ற “கடவுளின் அன்புத்திட்டம்” சிறுவர்களுக்கான அபிவிருத்தி திட்டத்தில் குழந்தைகள் பாதுகாப்பு வாரம் சிறப்பாகக் கொண்டாடப்பட்டது.
குழந்தைகளின் உரிமைகள், பாதுகாப்பு குறித்து மிகுந்த கரிசனையுடன் பணியாற்றும் தென் இந்நதிய திருச்சபை யாழ் ஆதீனம் குழந்தைகளின் உரிமைகள், பாதுகாப்பு மற்றும் ஒவ்வொரு குழந்தைக்கும் பாதுகாப்பான சூழலை உருவாக்குவதின் அவசியம் குறித்து விழிப்புணர்வு ஏற்படுத்துவதே இந்நிகழ்ச்சியின் நோக்கமாக கொண்டு இந்நிகழ்ச்சி திட்டத்தை செயற்படுத்தியுள்ளது. திட்டத்தில் பயனாளிகளாக உள்ள குழந்தைகள், இயக்குநர் மற்றும் விருந்தினர்கள் அனைவரும் சாலை வழியாக விழிப்புணர்வு பதாதை ஏந்தியவாறு ஓர் விழிப்புணர்வு நடைபயணத்தில் பங்கேற்றனர்.
இந்நிகழ்வில் சிறப்பு விருந்தினராக திரு. எஸ். ஜெயகணேஷ், குழந்தைகள் உரிமைகள் மேம்பாட்டு அலுவலர் (பிரதேச அலுவலகம் – கரைச்சி) கலந்து கொண்டு குழந்தைகள் பாதுகாப்பு குறித்த விழிப்புணர்வை வழங்கினார்.
இச்சசெயற்றிட்டத்தின் மூலமாக குழந்தைகள், பெற்றோர் மற்றும் சமூகத்தில் குழந்தைகள் பாதுகாப்பு மற்றும் உரிமைகள் குறித்த விழிப்புணர்வு அதிகரிக்கப்பட்டது. ஆமலம் குழந்தைகள் தாங்களே சமூகத்தில் விழிப்புணர்வு பரப்பும் நடவடிக்கைகளில் தன்னம்பிக்கையுடன் பங்கேற்றனர். சமூகத்தில் குழந்தைகளை பாதுகாப்பது அனைவரின் பொறுப்பு என்பதில் வலுவான நினைவூட்டல் அனைவருக்கும் வழங்கப்பட்டது.
இந்த நிகழ்ச்சி, குழந்தைகளைப் பாதுகாப்பதில் குடும்பம், பள்ளி, சமூகம் ஆகிய அனைத்தினரின் பொறுப்பு எவ்வளவு முக்கியமானது என்பதை வலியுறுத்தியது. பேனர் உடன் நடைபெற்ற நடைபயணம் மற்றும் விழிப்புணர்வு சொற்பொழிவு, இப்பகுதியிலுள்ள மக்களுக்கு சிறந்த தாக்கத்தை ஏற்படுத்தியது

Grace and peace to you all in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
On this blessed occasion of the 79th Formation Day of the Church of South India (CSI), I join all our faithful in the Jaffna Diocese of the CSI (JDCSI) in giving glory and thanksgiving to God Almighty, who has sustained and guided our Church from its very inception in 1947 until this day. With a deep sense of gratitude, I wish to thank the faithful members and leaders of our Diocese, especially those who have run the race faithfully in the past decades, keeping alive the witness of JDCSI in unity with the greater CSI communion.
We are profoundly thankful and proud of our leaders and pioneers of JDCSI, who, from the earliest years of CSI’s formation, have stood firm in solidarity- bearing testimony to our unity across boundaries of geography and culture. They root us in the larger story of CSI, which has always been an embodiment of ecumenism, partnership, and mission. The great legacy entrusted to us calls us to remain steadfast in the path of Christian unity and witness.
For this Formation Day, I wish to draw your attention to the verse from the Book of Ecclesiastes 4:9–10
“Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up the other; but woe to one who is alone and falls and does not have another to help.”
This passage, though simple and practical, carries profound theological depth for us. Ecclesiastes emphasizes the strength of fellowship and the necessity of community in human life. Applied to the Church, it speaks to the power of unity in Christ across nations, cultures, and languages. The CSI itself is a historic testimony of this truth—born of the conviction that the mission of God becomes possible when Christians from varied traditions (Anglicans, Wesleyans, Presbyterians, Congregationalists) unite.
In our current global realities, the spirit of this verse reminds us that the mission of God is never an individual task but a collective calling. When churches from different countries and contexts walk together, they lift and strengthen one another. Our formation as CSI was not simply an institutional decision but a divine movement of the Holy Spirit for unity in Christ’s mission. That’s why we proudly call CSI Formation day as an experience of Second Pentecost. Today, as we commemorate 79 years, we are called to deepen this ecumenical fellowship, to cross borders, stand with the marginalized, and to make God’s mission of love, justice, and peace possible in the world.
Contemporary Archaeological evidence confirms the age-old links between Sri Lanka and South India from the 1st century CE onwards. Coins bearing similar images found widely in Sri Lanka highlights this connection. Moreover, the unique pedestal motif on Sri Lankan coins—traced back to Megalithic pottery traditions (c. 500 BCE–200 CE)—demonstrates a shared yet distinct cultural heritage between the two regions.
These evidences represent the enduring, loving connection between South India and Sri Lanka, particularly across ages, celebrating their shared Tamil and calling for unity despite modern divisions.
On behalf of JDCSI, I extend my respectful greetings and heartfelt wishes to our Moderator, the Most Rev. Dr. Prof. K. Reuben Mark, Adv. C. Fernandas Rathina Raja, General Secretary and the Chairman of the Tamilnadu Minority Economic Development Corporation, and our Hon. Treasurer, Prof. Dr. B. Vimal Sukumar of the CSI Synod. We also remember and send greetings to all our brother Bishops in the CSI, who shoulder together the responsibility of guiding this great Church of unity and mission. May the Lord continue to bless your leadership with wisdom, humility, and courage.
As we celebrate the 79th Formation Day of CSI, may God strengthen our hands, sharpen our vision, and keep alive the ecumenical spirit that gave birth to CSI. Together with all our sister dioceses, may we continue to make a difference in the world by living out Christ’s prayer: “that they may all be one… so that the world may believe” (John 17:21).

A special counselling event for parents, focused on guiding children aged 8-12 towards positive self-awareness and identity, was successfully held on 25. 09. 2025 at the God’s Love Child Development Centre, Holy Trinity Church, Visuvamadu.
The event, organized for beneficiaries of the “God’s Love” project of the Jaffna Diocese (Church of South India), saw the enthusiastic participation of almost 00 parents. The program was led by Mr. S. Senthooran, a Counselling Officer from the Kandawalai Divisional Secretariat, who provided expert advice and practical guidelines.
In the midst of Rev. Daniel Mohan, Parish Priest and Project Director, the event emphasized the crucial role parents play in the mental, emotional, and social development of their children.
Practical Guidance for Nurturing Confident Children
The primary objective was to equip parents with strategies to support their children’s growth. Mr. Senthooran explained key concepts in a simple and engaging manner, breaking down self-awareness into fundamental questions like, “Who am I? What do I like? What am I strong in and what do I need to improve in?”
Parents were introduced to several practical exercises, including:
- Creating a Strengths Journal: To help children note their achievements and positive qualities.
- The Future Self Activity: Encouraging children to think about their goals by asking, “What do you want to become when you turn 18?”
- Building a Compliment Web: Fostering a positive home environment where family members regularly express appreciation for one another.
An Engaging and Interactive Session
A significant part of the counselling focused on the daily role of parents. They were encouraged to have meaningful conversations by asking questions like, “What made you proud today?” and to practice positive reinforcement by acknowledging efforts, not just results. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, where parents had the opportunity to seek specific advice for their situations.
The program successfully enhanced parents’ understanding of how to nurture their children’s self-identity and emotional well-being. The active involvement of all 94 attendees highlighted the community’s commitment to raising well rounded and confident children through the God’s Love Project.

திருச்சபையின் அருட்பணியாளரும் இத்திட்டத்தின் இயக்குனருமான அருட்பணி.டானியேல் மோகன் அவர்களின் தலைமையில் நடைபெற்ற இந்நிகழ்வில் 94 பெற்றோர்கள் கலந்துகொண்டு பயன்பெற்றனர். கண்டாவளை பிரதேச செயலகத்தைச் சேர்ந்த திரு. செந்தூரன் அவர்கள் ஆலோசனை அலுவலராக கலந்து கொண்டு இந்நிகழ்வினை சிறப்பாக வழிநடத்தினார். இந்நிகழ்வில் குழந்தைகளின் உள, உணர்ச்சி, மற்றும் சமூக வளர்ச்சியில் பெற்றோரின் பங்கு மிக முக்கியம் என்பதைக் குறிப்பிடும் வகையில், ஆலோசனைகள் மற்றும் நடைமுறை வழிகாட்டல்கள் வழங்கப்பட்டன.
நான் யார்? எனக்கு என்ன பிடிக்கும்? நான் எதில் வலுவானவன் எதில் வளர வேண்டியவன்?” போன்ற விடயங்கள் குறித்து பெற்றோருக்க எளிய முறையில் விளங்கப்படுத்தப்பட்டது.
ஆளுமைமிக்க ஓர் குழந்தையை வளர்த்தெடுப்பதில் பெற்றோரின் பங்கு எப்படிபட்டதாக இருக்கவேண்டும் என்பது குறித்து பல்வேறுப்பட்ட உதாரணங்களுடன் பெற்றோருக்கு பயறிசிகள் கொடக்கப்பட்டன.
இந்த ஆலோசனை நிகழ்ச்சியின் மூலம் பெற்றோர்கள், தங்கள் குழந்தைகளின் சுய அடையாளம், திறமைகள், கனவுகள், உணர்ச்சி வெளிப்பாடு ஆகியவற்றை ஊக்குவிக்கும் முறைகள் குறித்து தெளிவடைந்தனர்.
