The former Principal of Uduvil Girls’ College, Dr. (Miss) C.V. Chelliaiah, marked her 90th birthday recently, receiving heartfelt tributes from the college community and its alumni.

On the 31st, the Old Girls’ Association of Uduvil Girls' College organized a special thanksgiving service at the college chapel to honor her life and legacy. The service was attended by board members, former students, and well-wishers, who gathered in gratitude for her remarkable contribution to the institution.

A second celebration was held on another day with the participation of the current college community, including students, teachers, the Principal, and staff members. The occasion reflected the deep respect and affection she continues to receive across generations of the college family.

Dr. Chelliaiah’s long tenure as Principal is remembered as a period of significant development and strengthening of the college. In particular, during the difficult years of conflict, she is fondly recalled as a protective and steadfast guardian for the students, ensuring their safety, care, and continued education.

Former students shared moving reflections, recalling the discipline, values, and life experiences they gained under her leadership. Many described her as a guiding figure whose influence extended far beyond academics, shaping character and resilience in times of uncertainty.

The celebrations concluded with expressions of gratitude for her dedicated service and lasting impact on the growth and identity of the college.

Tamil Sinhala New Year Market Festival was successfully held at the Preschool of the Church of South India (CSI), Adappankulam.The event was organized as part of the preschool's New Year celebrations with the aim of promoting creativity, entrepreneurship, and community participation among the children. Students, parents, and teachers attended the festival and contributed to its success.A variety of food items, handmade crafts, and creative works prepared by the children and their families were displayed and offered for sale. The market festival provided an opportunity for the children to gain practical exposure to basic concepts of trade, teamwork, and financial responsibility in an enjoyable learning environment.Parents and visitors highly appreciated the efforts of the children and teachers, noting that such activities help develop confidence, social skills, and a spirit of cooperation among young learners.The festival concluded in a joyful atmosphere, making the Tamil Sinhala New Year celebration a memorable and meaningful event for all who participated.

Sunday School One-Day Special Programme Held at Kalmedu Church

A one-day special programme for Sunday School children was recently held at the Kalmedu Church under the Jaffna Diocese of the Church of South India.

The event was conducted under the leadership of Evangelist Brother Sam Sivalingam, who is serving at the church. The programme was facilitated by Brother Sulakshan, Regional Coordinator of the Northern Province for the Sri Lanka Children’s Gospel Union, who actively guided the sessions.

Reverend S. Daniel Mohan, church worker from Vishwamadu Church, also participated in the event and contributed to its success.

The programme aimed at promoting the spiritual growth of children, strengthening their Christian faith, and developing biblical knowledge along with good moral values and character formation. Various activities including Bible studies, group sessions, games, and interactive learning exercises were conducted to engage the children in a meaningful and enjoyable way.

Children who participated showed great enthusiasm throughout the programme, and it was widely appreciated as a valuable opportunity for their spiritual and personal development.

தென்னிந்திய திருச்சபையின் யாழ் ஆதீனம் கல்மடு திருச்சபையில் ஓய்வுநாள் பாடசாலைப் பிள்ளைகளுக்கான ஒருநாள் சிறப்பு நிகழ்வு அண்மையில் நடைபெற்றது.

அங்கு பணியாற்றும் நற்செய்திப் பணியாளர் அருட்சகோதரர் சேம் சிவலிங்கம் அவர்களின் தலைமையில் நடைபெற்ற இந்நிகழ்வில், இலங்கை சிறுவர் நற்செய்தி ஐக்கிய நிறுவனத்தின் வடபகுதி ஒருங்கிணைப்பாளர் சகோதரர் சுலக்சன் அவர்கள் வளவாளராகக் கலந்து கொண்டு நிகழ்ச்சிகளை வழிநடத்தினார்.

மேலும், விஸ்வமடு திருச்சபை ஊழியர் அருட்பணி எஸ். டேனியல் போகன் அவர்களும் இந்நிகழ்வில் பங்கேற்று சிறப்பித்தார்.

இந்நிகழ்வின் மூலம் பிள்ளைகளின் ஆன்மீக வளர்ச்சி, கிறிஸ்தவ வாழ்வில் நிலைத்திருத்தல், திருமுறை அறிவு மற்றும் நல்ல பண்பாட்டு வளர்ச்சி ஆகியவற்றை மேம்படுத்தும் நோக்கில் பயிற்சிகள் வழங்கப்பட்டன. திருமறைப் படிப்புகள், குழு நடவடிக்கைகள், விளையாட்டுக்கள் மற்றும் பல்வேறு செயன்முறை நிகழ்வுகள் ஊடாக பிள்ளைகள் பயனுள்ள அறிவையும் அனுபவங்களையும் பெற்றுக்கொண்டனர்.

The Mullivaikkal Disaster Remembrance Event was held on May 18 at the Salvation Army Church in Kaithady, organized by the Jaffna Christian Union.

The 17th anniversary remembrance of the Mullivaikkal Disaster was conducted under the theme: “Remembering Mullivaikkal Disaster while Emphasizing Non-Recurrence.”

The event commenced at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, 18.05.2026, and included special prayers, meditations, sharing of experiences, and tribute ceremonies in memory of those who lost their lives.

This remembrance event was organized to honor the memories of the people who died in Mullivaikkal and to stress the importance of ensuring that such atrocities never happen again. Many people, including clergy and members of the public, participated in the event

முள்ளிவாய்க்கால் பேரவல நினைவேந்தல் நிகழ்வு யாழ் கிறிஸ்தவ ஒன்றியத்தின் ஏற்பாட்டில் மே 18 ஆம் திகதி கைதடியில் அமைந்துள்ள இரட்சணிய சேனை ஆலயத்தில் நடைபெற்றது.

“மீள்நிகழாமையை வலியுறுத்தும் முள்ளிவாய்க்கால் பேரவல நினைவேந்தல்” எனும் தொனிப்பொருளில் முள்ளிவாய்க்கால் பேரவலத்தின் 17 ம் ஆண்டு நினைவேந்தல் நிகழ்வு முன்னெடுக்கப்பட்டது.

18.05.2026 திங்கட்கிழமை பிற்பகல் 4.00 மணிக்கு ஆரம்பமான இந்நிகழ்வில் உயிரிழந்த மக்களின் நினைவாக விசேட ஜெபங்கள், தியானங்கள், அனுபவப்பகிர்வு மற்றும் அஞ்சலி நிகழ்வுகள் இடம்பெற்றன.

முள்ளிவாய்க்காலில் உயிர்நீத்த மக்களின் நினைவுகளைப் போற்றியும், இனி அத்தகைய பேரவலங்கள் மீண்டும் நிகழாதிருக்க வேண்டிய அவசியத்தை வலியுறுத்தியும் நடத்தப்பட்ட இந்நிகழ்வில் பொதுமக்கள் குருக்கள் என அநேகர் கலந்து கொண்டனர்.

Christmas Celebration Brings Joy to Subramaniam Kanagam Memorial Pleasant Cottage (Elders’ Home)

The Elders' Home celebrated the joy and spirit of Christmas with a special festive gathering last December. The programme was beautifully organized under the leadership of the Director, Prof. Thulasitha William Shanthakumar, creating a memorable occasion for all the residents.

The celebration featured a variety of performances by the elders themselves, including heartfelt songs and lively dances, showcasing their talents and enthusiasm. Their participation filled the atmosphere with happiness and festive cheer.

The Bishop graciously attended the event, sharing words of blessing and encouragement with the residents and staff. The programme was led by the Chaplain, Rev. S. John Lingeswaran, who conducted the worship and devotional activities.

As a token of love and care, Christmas gifts were distributed to all the elders residing at the Home, making the celebration even more meaningful. The event reflected the spirit of compassion, fellowship, and the true message of Christmas, bringing smiles and warmth to the hearts of everyone present.
